Family Centered Treatment Recovery ®

A Family Systems Approach to Recovery by Addressing the Confluence of Substance-use, Trauma and Child Welfare

Family Centered Treatment-Recovery (FCT-R) is an innovative practice and systems-of-care model that weaves together the evidence-based Family Centered Treatment® model and best practices in substance use treatment. FCT-R addresses not only substance misuse, but also the underlying family systems and trauma histories that contribute to and maintain the cycle of addiction. Distinctive features of FCT-R include: SUD specific family system interventions, integrated trauma treatment, Certified Peer Support Specialist, contingency management, random drug screens, implementation teams and participation in a community or treatment group of the family’s choice.

FCT-R Eligibility and Implementation

FCT-R is available to currently licensed FCT organizations. The Family Centered Treatment Foundation will conduct a FCT-R Readiness Assessment upon request. While not considered prerequisites per se, the following are key components to have in place or under development for the successful launch of a FCT-R program: existing SUD program, supervisors with SUD expertise/credentials, experience and infrastructure to facilitate drug testing, funding for additional FCT-R components, stakeholder partnerships to support both internal and external capacities.
